Honoring Two Pillars of the Rural Lifestyle AllianceFormer CEO Don Perdue & First Lobbyist Nurham Warwick
Don Perdue — Former CEO & Retired West Virginia Delegate A man of integrity, leadership, and unwavering commitment. As CEO, Don Perdue brought wisdom, stability, and direction during the earliest formation of the Rural Lifestyle Alliance. His leadership helped define the Alliance’s role as a strong, organized voice for rural America. Don understood the challenges facing small farmers, ranchers, gamefowl breeders, and rural families across the nation. His work emphasized protecting property rights, respecting rural traditions, bridging lawmakers and rural communities, and ensuring policy decisions reflected the realities of rural life. His legacy is one of dignity and devotion. During his last week, Don shared a message that his wife later preserved: “It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from or what you do, you were part of my life and for that I am eternally grateful. Every human interaction leaves something behind to help make you who you are. So be thankful for all of them.” This quote reflects his character—grateful, fair-minded, compassionate, and respectful toward everyone, even those he disagreed with.

Nurham Warwick was the Alliance’s first lobbyist—a man who stepped forward to speak boldly for rural people who often felt unheard. As a retired Delegate of North Carolina, he carried deep experience and a lifetime of public service into the halls where rural issues needed representation most. He opened communication with lawmakers, launched our earliest advocacy efforts, and exposed the threats facing rural landowners, small farms, gamefowl owners, and heritage animal keepers. His grit, passion, and authenticity continue to influence how the RLA advocates today. Their Combined Legacy Though both men have passed on, the Rural Lifestyle Alliance continues to stand on the foundation they built. Their voices, leadership, and courage guide our mission to defend rural rights, preserve heritage traditions, challenge harmful legislation, and uplift rural families across the nation. We honor them by continuing the work they be
